Castle Stuart, now part of Cabot Highlands, is a championship links a few miles east of Inverness on the shoreline of the Moray Firth. Most holes have sea views, with the Kessock Bridge, Chanonry Lighthouse, Fort George and Castle Stuart itself often framed in the shot.
It is surrounded by gorse, broom, heather and sea marram, and it harks back to the golf of 1890 to 1935. Bunkers are open sandy areas rather than formally revetted, and an Art Deco clubhouse sits on its perch above the course.
It makes a natural stop on any trip to the north of Scotland.
