Ayrshire is famously not only the host of regular Open Champiosnhip events over both Turnberry and Royla Troon but is also the birthplace of the Championship itself. However you don't need to wait another few years to watch Championship golf as you have two Scottish Opens heading to the west coast in July of 2017.
Located near the town of Irvine, Dundonald Links will follow on from Castle Stuart Golf Links, the host venue for the 35th playing of Scotland’s national Open from July 12-16, 2017.
The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open has long been a favourite event of the world’s best players, occupying an envied position the week before The Open and offering players the perfect links preparation for the world’s oldest major championship and it is expected that many of the world's top players will be heading to Ayrshire for a links challenge.
Five of the last six Open Champions have played in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open the week before, including Phil Mickelson who completed a historic double winning both events back to back in 2013 at Castle Stuart and Muirfield and Henrik Stenson, who recorded a record-low score of 20-under par en route to winning at Royal Troon in 2016.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to Scotland and to playing at Dundonald, which is just down the road from Troon. Obviously it is going to make it a special week for me at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. It’s a tournament which has helped me prepare really well for The Open and I’m looking forward to the new venue at Dundonald.
“I played the Scottish Open in 2013 and went on to finish second to Phil in The Open the following week. Then I missed Scotland for a couple of years and didn’t do that well the following week. I played last year the week before Troon and we all know how that turned out, so playing in the Scottish Open definitely helps to fine tune the links game.”

The 2017 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open takes place for a third time at Dundonald Links on the West Coast of Scotland in North Ayrshire, from 27th - 30th July less than a fortnight after the gents leave the course.
The event sees a unique co-sanctioning agreement between the LET and LPGA that sees Dundonald Links host the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and offers the highest prize fund on the Ladies European Tour outside the Majors.
The three-year deal, brought together by the LET and the LPGA in partnership with title sponsor, Aberdeen Asset Management and key partner Visit Scotland, will see the event transition from a Pro-Am format to an individual stroke-play event with a stronger field and truly global media coverage.
With a full 156 strong field and a prize fund of US$1.5m, the 72-hole Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open will sit on both the LET and LPGA schedules and underlines Scotland's commitment to growing women's golf.
